The SmackDown midcard has received a major shake-up, as Baron Corbin made his return to WWE on the July 10 episode of SmackDown. Corbin interrupteda match between United States Champion Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes, As Hayes went up to the top rope, Corbin intercepted Hayes to begin the attaack. It was Corbin’s first WWE appearance in two years.
Prior to his return, Corbin had been working in Major League Wrestling, where he had won the MLW World Tag Team Championship alongside Donvanan Dijak, known as The Skyscrapers. Far more fascinating is that Corbin had recently been reported to having signed with WWE back in early May, only to deny the reports outright on his Twitter. Whether those reports were simply premature and the company had interest, or Corbin was attempting to suppress the report to save a potential surprise remains to be seen.
Corbin’s first run in WWE had been very successful, even if its lowlights like the dog food program are regularly mentioned. After his NXT undefeated streak, the Lone Wolf found a successful pairing with Rhyno, until he made his main roster debut as a solo star. Despite winning Money in the Bank, King of the Ring, the United States Championship, and later in the run, the NXT Tag Team Championships in a surprisingly fun pairing with Bron Breakker, Corbin became known for his versatility, especially as a character wrestler, ranging from his days as Constable all the way up to the Happy Corbin persona.
DSR will continue to keep you updated on how the return came together.
